As most of you know I am new here in Malaysia, so I’m not yet familiar with the holidays and celebrations here. In fact, I haven’t experienced celebrating Hari Raya yet. Good thing my blogger friend, Mary Jane (tauyanm.com), and Watsons invited me to attend their Hari Raya Aidilftri celebration last August 12, 2015 at Subak Dine with Nature. It was actually Watsons’ treat to 50 lucky Watsons Malaysia WeChat followers. This event gave the winners a chance to meet the main casts of the “Raya Ni Dah Kahwin” drama.
I honestly do not know the celebrities here in Malaysia (yet) so I didn’t know who they are, but judging from the smitten faces of the fans attending the event I say they must be pretty big here. When Nina Iskandr and Amar Asyraf entered the stage the fans gushed and clapped. It was an exciting moment for the lucky WeChat winners when they were given an opportunity to dance with the stars on stage. Plus they get the chance to play a short sketch challenge and a trivia quiz game pertaining to the Raya Ni Dah Kahwin drama.
“We want to give a wholesome experience to Malaysians to connect in this joyful Hari Raya celebration with Watsons. And our aim is to showcase that Watsons is for the whole family through this drama series and the same time leverage a relationship with our customers,” said Danny Hoh, Head of Marketing, Watsons Malaysia.
The event was very relaxing and intimate as it was held in a venue surrounded by nature. Lots of fun activities were also available for the guests. There was a printing booth where we can print photos from our phones but we need to connect using our WeChat.
Then there was a hand massage spa corner…
…and caricature drawing booth. My favorite was the Caricature Drawing booth where a very talented artists drew caricatures of guests in 3 minutes or less… and the fun part was the sketch was pretty accurate. Here’s mine:
I also got to chat and mingle with fellow bloggers and wechat winners while sipping a cup of coffee.
The program started with a traditional Malaysian dance. I was fascinated with the lovely dance number, I love watching Malaysian cultural performances, it’s always something new to me.
Watsons Malaysia also presented RM 20,000 to Hospis Malaysia during the event. Apparently, the amount was collected by Watsons Malaysia and GlaxoSmithKline Malaysia during the Ramadan month wherein for every Panaflex or Panadol purchased at Watsons stores 10 sen goes to Hospis Malaysia.
After the program, guests lined up in the buffet area to enjoy the delicious local Malaysian cuisines prepared by Subak. My favorite was the lemang. I think there was rendang too but I am not too sure haha I am not yet that familiar with some Malaysian food.
Hari Raya seems to be celebrated in Malaysia for a whole month even after the Eid is finished, it’s like how Filipinos try to extend Christmas until mid of January. Anyway, I really enjoyed the festivities and it was more fun because I was able to enjoy it with Watsons, my favorite beauty shop.
