Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Fest Sets Out To Tickle Your Funny Bones

Filipinos are very well known for their light-hearted humor and our ability to laugh despite hardships. I for one am addicted in watching comedy films and stand-up comedians. Back home in the Philippines I would normally go to comedy bars with family and friends. So imagine my delight when I found out that there will be an upcoming Comedy Festival here in Malaysia! And that’s not all, the event is going to bring in 60 of the best comics in the world from 14 countries to make us laugh for 8 days simultaneously happening in 5 locations. The Kuala Lumpur International Comedy Festival is set to become Asia’s biggest comedy affair ever, happening on September 16 to 23, 2015.

I attended the press conference last August 12, 2015 to find out more about this. I was thrilled when I found out that the comedy acts would include satires, improvs and sketches. There will also be an open mic competition as well as kid’s comedy workshops! Comedians from all over the globe will also be coming like Paul Ogata, Tom Hodes and my favorite Fil-Am comedian, Rex Navarrete… plus many more! Rex Navarrete will be performing at The Bee on September 21 (entrance fee is at RM 70), as well as on the Gala Night with other International artists on the Sept. 20th at Berjaya Hotel. There are also other Filipino comedians coming and I am of course looking forward for that. They will be performing at THE BEE on September 20, then on September 21st at Crackhouse. Entrance fee for both is ONLY RM 38! So let’s go and support them! Here are the details (also click the photo for more information):

Since the event is going to be International so expect that the stand-up comedy shows are going to be in either Cantonese, Bahasa Malaysia and Indonesia, Tagalog (my mother tongue) and of course English.

This is all the brainchild of Malaysia’s Godfather of Comedy, Harith Iskander. According to Harith, “a full-fledged international comedy festival is the next logical step in the growth of the comedy scene here. This is a first, a huge first and we’ve worked hard to do it right. Everyone’s heard of the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Montreal’s ‘Just For Laughs’, three of the biggest, most prestigious comedy festivals. Hopefully KLIC Fest will be a step towards getting Kuala Lumpur in that elite group of cities. Edinburgh, Melbourne, Montreal, KL.”

The festivities highlight is going to be on September 20, 2015 where the festival’s biggest comedians will perform together in what is to be expected the funniest night ever. Harith Kander’s “To Know Malaysia Is To Laugh Malaysia” Gala Night is going to be at The Manhattan Ballroom, Berjaya Hotel.
