This is one of the most memorable event I had ever attended this year. Stellar line up of international artists, spectacular stage set-up and amazing performances! Nearly 20,000 attendees swarmed Sunway Lagoon’s Surf Beach last September 12, 2015 despite the haze!
I was able to attend the exclusive press conference before the event started, thanks to my media pass, and got to see the international artists up close and ask a question from Carly Rae Jepsen and Jason Derulo [READ MY ARTICLE FROM THE PRESS CONFERENCE HERE] .
After the press conference, we headed out to get our VIP tickets. The media received an MTV World Stage T-Shirt, cool glasses and a fan.
Going to the event proper was pretty easy as there were a lot of marshals scattered around and the stage set-up was so huge and magnificent… so futuristic!
Also, my colleague from Asia 361 and I took pics at the photo booth before heading out to the VIP section, which looks like a picnic area by the beach.
The music festivities started with a hot performance from local singer Stacy as she danced and sang her upbeat song, “Not For Sale“.
To open the international acts, Sekai No Owari kickstarted with their song “Anti-Hero“. It was their first time performing in Southeast Asia and they did not disappoint as they showed off what made them a huge hit in Japan. Also just to note, during the press conference, Sekai No Owari stated that their costume for this event was actually inspired by the classic movie “Clockwork Orange”.
Following the Japanese act is the KPOP sensation, APink. I have to admit probably 85% of the crowd are their fans, so imagine the frenzy when they were elevated on stage. They started with their hit track “LUV“. The crowd went wild when they performed the fan favorite song “Mr. Chu“. APink ended their set with “Remember” as they were showered with confetti.
Fans cheered as the most awaited performance by Carly Rae Jepsen made the energy level go over the roof while she sang “Call Me Maybe” and “I Really Like You” with the crowd.
And to cap off the night, Jason Derulo brought the house down with his powerful set, opening his act with a 14-song medley, indeed he made the event a one big party. The audience sang along with Derulo when he serenaded them with his hit “Marry Me“.
MTV World Stage Malaysia ended with a bang as a magnificent display of lights and fireworks lit up the sky and the venue.
But my most favorite part of this affair was how we, the members of the media and the bloggers, were treated like VIP by the MTV organizers. All the staff and crew were so accommodating and helpful. We even have access to the media room where we were able to do our job in peace in a small cozy room, complete with free internet connection, seats, snacks and a huge TV where we can watch the whole show up close. Also the lunch and dinner provided to us were splendid. As a blogger and part of the media, I appreciate that MTV and their staff/crew value our presence. So a big thanks and congratulations to all the people who worked hard to make this event happen!
